No. 5 Soccer Falls to No. 21 Texas, 2-1, in SEC Tournament Semifinal
PENSACOLA, Fla. – No. 5 Arkansas soccer lost its first SEC Tournament semifinal match since 1994 on Thursday night, falling to No. 21 Texas, 2-1, in double-overtime.
The Longhorns, the 3-seed, won the rematch with two unanswered goals. The first, an own goal, crossed the line near the end of the first half and the second, the golden goal, was scored by defender Lauren Lapomarda just before the match went to penalty kicks.
Arkansas’ Kennedy Ball scored the match’s opener and became the squad’s 20th goal scorer this season. Ball’s third career goal was placed perfectly in the upper right corner and out of the reach of Texas goalkeeper Mia Justus.
SEC Forward of the Year Ava Tankersley led the team with five shots, four on frame, but did not find the back of the net.
The last time Arkansas went to overtime was in 2022 when the Hogs faced Memphis in penalty kicks for a trip to the Elite 8.
