No. 6 Arkansas in Fifth after 36 Holes at Chevron Collegiate

HUMBLE, Texas – The sixth-ranked Arkansas women’s golf team sits in fifth place at 1-under par after 36 holes at the Chevron Collegiate held at the Golf Club of Houston in Humble, Texas (par 72).

No. 16 North Carolina leads the 17-team field at 15-under, thanks to an 11-under second round in the afternoon.

Junior Maria José Marin leads Arkansas at 4-under and is tied for fifth place. The Cali, Colombia native opened the event with a 4-under 68. She was 5-under with no bogeys until a setback on the par-4 No. 17. José Marin shot even in the second round.

The Hogs had 18 birdies in the first round but struggled to find momentum with only nine in the second round.

Junior Abbey Schutte shot a 2-under 70 in the first after starting the round with a double-bogey and a bogey in her first two holes. Schutte shot a 4-over 76 in the second round. Senior Reagan Zibilski was 2-over after the first 18, but shot a 1-under 71 in the second round.

Freshman newcomer Sara Brentcheneff matched Zibilski with a 2-over first round and a 1-under second. Fifth-player Anna Kate Nichols’ first-round score of 2-over was dropped but her 3-over score on the second 18 was counted due to Schutte’s 76.

The Hogs will tee off in the final round at 1 p.m. on Tuesday.
