No. 6 Arkansas Uses Late Penalty Kick to Tie No. 2 Notre Dame

FAYETTEVILLE – The sixth-ranked Razorbacks (0-1-1) scored the first and last goals of the match against No. 2 Notre Dame, which ended in a 2-2 draw in front of 2,947 fans at Razorback Field

Arkansas trailed with just under 10 minutes to play until the Irish committed a handball in the penalty box on a cross from junior midfielder Kennedy Ball. Before the cross, Ball nutmegged two Notre Dame defenders near the corner, a rare feat in soccer.

After a replay review, midfielder Zoe Susi struck the ball with her right foot and into the upper left part of the goal. Notre Dame goalkeeper Sonoma Kasica dove to the right in an attempt to make a save.

Both teams fought for a winner in the final 10 minutes, but, for the second straight time in this series, the match ended in a 2-2 draw.

Ball scored Arkansas’ first goal just six minutes in after she intercepted a dangerous back pass to Kasica.

Stats on both sides were even, with Notre Dame outshooting the Razorbacks 12-11. The Irish also led in shots on target, 7-6, and corner kicks, 6-5. Both teams made four saves each.

The crowd of 2,947 was the seventh-largest crowd in Razorback Field history.
