No. 6 Arkansas’ 9 Game Win Streak Snapped

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – No. 6 Arkansas’ nine game win streak was snapped by No. 12 Kentucky as the Wildcats evened the series with a 10-7 victory Saturday night at Bogle Park. Sunday’s rubber match will begin at 11 a.m.

The Hogs gripped onto a 7-1 lead until the Wildcats evened it at 7-7 in the top of the fourth. The game remained tied until Kentucky pushed three runs across in the top of the seventh. Arkansas attempted to rally back on a two-out single through the left side by senior Linnie Malkin, but Kentucky held onto its comeback bid.

Despite the loss, several Razorbacks pieced together career nights. Sophomore Hannah Gammill tied her career high in hits with three, including a solo home run, along with two RBIs. Junior Audrie LaValley also tied her career high in hits after lacing two. Freshman Spencer Prigge sailed her first career home run on a two-run shot in the second. Linnie Malkin soared Arkansas’ other home run on a solo jack. KB Sides and Hannah McEwen each filed hits with Sides’ being a double and McEwen’s a hard-hit single back to the pitcher.

Mary Haff (12-3) spun the game’s first 3.2 innings before Jenna Bloom (7-1) threw the game’s final 3.1 frames.

How It Happened

After Kentucky plated one in the top of the first, Gammill knotted it up at 1-1 on an RBI double to left center, scoring Ellsworth from second. Malkin followed with a two-RBI single down the right field line to score Gibson and Gammill and grant the Hogs a 3-1 lead.

The Razorbacks added to their lead on Prigge’s two-run homer in the second.

Arkansas got its final two runs of the night in the third on back-to-back solo blasts by Gammill and Malkin.

The Razorbacks threatened to score again in the fourth and fifth on leadoff doubles by Sides and Gammill but were unable to convert.

Kentucky captured its first lead of the night in the seventh to force a Sunday rubber match.
