No. 70 Arkansas Hosts No. 8 Tennessee, No. 68 Kentucky in Final Stretch of Homestand

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 70 Arkansas women’s tennis team (4-8, 1-4) is set to conclude its four-match homestand with a pair of SEC contests at Billingsley Tennis Center this weekend as the Razorbacks welcome No. 8 Tennessee (9-3, 3-2) on Friday, March 14 at 5 p.m. and No. 68 Kentucky (6-7, 0-5) on March 16 at 12 p.m.

The Hogs are coming off their first SEC win of the season with the upset over then-No. 69 Missouri last Sunday. For the second time in SEC play, the Razorbacks were able to take the doubles point to begin a match, helping them to secure the victory against the Tigers. Arkansas checked back into the ITA team rankings this week with an upset over then-No. 69 Missouri last Saturday.

The No. 8 Volunteers have started the spring 9-3 and are 3-2 in SEC play after a victory over No. 25 South Carolina last weekend at home. The singles lineup for Tennessee is headed by No. 8 Elza Tomase in the top spot and No. 36 Catherine Aulia on court two. The Volunteers lineup also features No. 106 Leyla Britez Risso, Francesca Mattioli and Maeve Thornton. The duo of Thornton and Vanesa Suarez has earned five wins together and are ranked No. 40 in the ITA doubles rankings.

The No. 68 Wildcats are off to a 6-7 start this year and are 0-5 in SEC play after losses to No. 1 Georgia and No. 25 South Carolina last weekend. Kentucky is led by No. 101 Zoe Hammond and No. 66 Julia Zhu, who have mainly competed at the No. 1 and No. 2 positions this season. Zhu leads Kentucky with eight singles victories while splitting time between courts two and three. The pairing of No. 87 Ellie Eades and Lizzy Stevens are 5-3 at the No. 1 position in doubles play.
