No. 9 Arkansas squares off with No. 4 Tigers in LSU Invitational

BATON ROUGE – No. 9 Arkansas competes in the LSU Invitational at Bernie Moore Stadium on Saturday, May 2, with the host Tigers ranked No. 4 nationally.

The field of teams in the meet include Florida State, Louisiana Lafayette, McNeese State, New Orleans, Ole Miss, Rutgers, and Tulane.

“This has been a stable meet for us on our calendar and we’re looking to go out and perform,” said Arkansas women’s head coach Chris Johnson. “The weather doesn’t look as hot as it usually is in Baton Rouge. If the wind is down, I think it’ll be good enough to get some last minute things done that we need to get done.

“We would like to get our 4 x 100m relay done and improving on some conference marks to get seeded in the right heats. We’re very much looking forward to this meet and excited about the opportunity to compete against some other good schools.”

Maria Arboleda aims for her fourth high jump victory this outdoor season after claiming three wins over four meets so far. Her best mark outdoors is 6-0 (1.83) from tying with Vashti Cunningham at the Mt. SAC Relays. Joining her in the competition are teammates Heidi Hudson and Savannah Byers.

The first section of the 400m will include four Razorbacks in adjacent lanes with Sanaria Butler, Kaylyn Brown, Sanu Jallow-Lockhart, and Analisse Batista occupying lanes 5-8. Arkansas alum Shafiqua Maloney is also in the race.

Another race featuring four Arkansas entries in adjacent lanes is the 400m hurdles with a Razorback quartet of Kaylin Edwards, Saira Prince, Morgan Herbst, and Rae-Anne Serville in lanes 4-7.

In the 200m, five Arkansas sprinters race in the second section with Brown and Butler joined by Taejha Badal, Asia Thomas and Arianna Sharpe.
