No. 25 Lady'Back Linksters travel to Texas
FAYETTEVILLE — The 25th-ranked University of Arkansas women’s golf team returns to the links Friday-Sunday at the Betsy Rawls Longhorn Invitational in Austin, Texas. The Lady Razorbacks have competed in a pair of spring events both in the state of Florida and get a more central feel to the field in Austin this weekend. "Purdue is the highest ranked team in the field," said assistant coach Shauna Estes. "Then us. This is a solid field and a nice course to go back to. We have a lot of good golf feelings here. Stacy Lewis won the tournament in 2005 and we’re really looking forward to a good week." In addition to No. 15 Purdue and the 25th-ranked Lady’Backs, Arkansas faces No. 45 Baylor, No. 75 Iowa, No. 84 Iowa State, No. 92 Kansas, No. 120 Minnesota, No. 54 Nebraska, No. 67 Notre Dame, No. 59 Oklahoma, No. 85 Penn State, No. 49 SMU, No. 95 Texas and No. 28 TCU this weekend. Arkansas junior Stacy Lewis again leads the charge for the Lady’Backs. Lewis had a solid even-par final round in her last outing and is looking forward to some good numbers in Texas. In addition to Lewis, Arkansas travels junior Ashley Medders, sophomore Lucy Nunn and freshmen Alex Schulte and Kristin Ingram. Freshman Corinna Rees will also travel and compete as an individual this weekend. Arkansas has battled some higher-than-normal numbers in the first two spring events finishing tied for sevent and 10th, respectively. "The big number has been hurting us," said Estes. "We had 17 double or higher in our last tournament and we know we’re a better team than that. We really have to eliminate our big numbers." The Lady Razorbacks will travel the same six players to the Georgia-hosted Liz Murphey Collegiate Classic March 23-25 and Arkansas has just one other event, the Susie Maxwell Berning Classic April 8-9, prior to the SEC Championship.
