Nunn and Phelps Take Part In Amateur Event

KINGWOOD, Texas – University of Arkansas golfers Lucy Nunn and Tiffany Phelps competed in first round action at the 93rd Women’s Southern Golf Association Amateur Championship in Kingwood, Texas, Monday. The duo are playing The Clubs of Kingwood Island Course, a par 72, 6,044-yard course in Kingwood, Texas. Nunn, a junior from Lawton, Okla., made the first round cut and is tied for 26th in the 85-player field carding an opening day 81 (39-42). Phelps tied for 44th overall with an 85 (41-44) but did not make the 32-player cut. Nunn, who played in every event including the 2008 NCAA Championship for the Lady Razorbacks this season, advances into the Championship Flight with match play Tuesday through Thursday followed by the 36-hole Championship Match Friday. Phelps drops down into the consolation match play beginning Tuesday. Former University of Arkansas golfer Stacy Lewis is the defending Southern Amateur champion winning last year’s event in Birmingham, Ala. She recently guided the United States to its sixth consecutive Curtis Cup title at St. Andrews, Scotland. Play continues for Nunn and Phelps through the elimination rounds.
