Razorbacks Cap Opening Weekend At Pebble Beach
CARMEL, Calif. – The Arkansas men’s golf team recorded its third straight round under par at Pebble Beach Golf Club on Sunday to finish alone in sixth place as Alvaro Ortiz posted a runner-up finish individually at the Carmel Cup.
For the third straight year, Ortiz finished inside the top 10 with rounds of 66-69-69 – 204 (-12) to finish T-2nd overall for the second-best outing of his career. The junior posted three consecutive rounds under-par for the first time as a Razorback and led the field in par five scoring at 9-under and eagles with two.
Dylan Naidoo finished under-par in his Razorback debut with rounds of 73-68-73 – 214 (-2) to finish T-14th overall. His 4-under 68 on Saturday was the second-best round of the weekend for Arkansas. The freshman led the team and was T-7th overall in par three scoring at 1-under.
William Buhl capped his first collegiate tournament with a 3-under 69 to finish T-30th at 72-76-69 – 217 (+1), while Luis Garza and Mason Overstreet tied for 35th overall at 2-over for the tournament. Noah Edmondson rounded out the team in 48th place.
In a stacked field with four of the top 10 teams in the country, No. 4 Oklahoma State (-38) captured the victory, followed by No. 9 Georgia (-30), Texas Tech (29), No. 5 Vanderbilt (-24) and No. 10 Oklahoma (-17) rounding out the top five. Arkansas finished at 12-under in the event and defeated TCU and Ohio State.
The Razorbacks return to action next weekend, traveling to the University of Minnesota to take part in the Gopher Invitational on Sept. 10-11 at Windsong Farm Golf Club.
