Pair of Razorback 110m hurdlers set career best times at separate Trials
EUGENE, Ore. – A career best time of 13.41 seconds placed Razorback Tre’Bien Gilbert fifth in his semifinal heat during Saturday’s action at the U.S. Olympic Trials at a very hot Hayward Field. In Kingston, Jamaica, Arkansas alum Omar McLeod and current Razorback Phillip Lemonious both reached Sunday’s final in the 110m hurdles.
With temperatures reaching 100 degrees during the session, Gilbert posted a time that ranks equal No. 3 on the UA all-time list, matching the time by Kevin White from 1997. He finished 11th overall in the semifinal field of 17.
Grant Holloway won the semifinal heat Gilbert raced in with a meet record of 12.81, which just missed the world record of 12.80 set by Aries Merritt in 2012. He bettered the 2021 world leading time of 13.01 held by McLeod.
McLeod won his semifinal heat in 13.04 while Lemonious set a career best of 13.21 as runner-up in the other semifinal, bettering the Olympic Games qualifying standard of 13.32.
Lemonious, who sported a previous best of 13.39 from the recent NCAA Championships, remains at the No. 2 on the UA all-time list, trailing only the school record of 12.97 by McLeod in 2015.
Jumping in Nassau, Bahamas, Razorback LaQuan Nairn claimed the long jump title with a leap of 26-1 ½ (7.96). Nairn is scheduled to compete again on June 28 in an effort to get the Olympic Games qualifier of 26-11 ¾ (8.22).
Ryan Brown, competing in the Jamaica Trials long jump, finished fifth with a mark of 25-1 ¾ (7.66).
Sunday’s action in Eugene will have Arkansas alum Jarrion Lawson contesting the long jump final at 4 p.m. PT (6 p.m. CT). Over in Great Britain, Razorback freshman Ruben Banks competes in the hammer.
