Razorback records broken in 800m, DMR at Arkansas Qualifier
FAYETTEVILLE – A pair of school records were broken by the Razorbacks during Friday’s Arkansas Qualifier in the 800m and distance medley relay at the Randal Tyson Track Center.
Rivaldo Marshall broke a 25-year-old UA record in the 800m with a meet record 1:45.62 and also bettered a day old Jamaican national record of 1:46.10 in the process. The previous school record of 1:45.95 was set by Dirk Heinze in 2001.
The previous meet record of 1:46.07 set by 2013 by Razorback Leoman Momoh was previously second best on the UA all-time list. In becoming the first Jamaican to better 1:46 indoors, Marshall topped the record set by Navasky Anderson in France on Thursday.
Last weekend, Arkansas teammate Tyrice Taylor initially broke the Jamaican record with a 1:46.11 victory at the Tyson Invitational when Marshall clocked 1:46.30 as runner-up.
Marshall, the 2024 NCAA Indoor champion with Iowa, claimed the Arkansas Qualifier 800m over the Oregon duo of Matthew Erickson (1:45.93) and James Harding (1:46.44). Erickson won the 2025 NCAA Indoor title.
Washington won the distance medley relay in 9:17.03 with Arkansas alum Reuben Reina, Jr. supplying a 3:52.16 on the 1,600m anchor leg. The Huskies rank as the No. 6 performance on the all-time collegiate list among times set on a 200m banked track.
In knocking four seconds of the previous Razorback school record, Arkansas posted a time of 9:17.30 while Iowa State place third in 9:26.13. Oregon (9:18.55) and Oklahoma State (9:19.09) were both disqualified in the race. The Ducks for interference and the Cowboys for relay exchanged violation.
The Razorback splits in the race included Owan Logorodi (2:52.61), Jordan Pierre (45.98), Taylor (1:46.00), and Brian Masai (3:52.71). The time for the Hogs ranks equal No. 6 on the collegiate all-time list with an equal No. 9 performance.
Arkansas’ previous record of 9:21.26 was set in this meet a year ago with the foursome of Davis Helmerich, Brandon Battle, Taylor, and Reina.
Arkansas newcomer Karabo Letebele of South Africa won the 60m in a meet record of 6.55 seconds as he promptly moved to No. 3 on the UA all-time list and only trails Jordan Anthony (6.47) and teammate Jelani Watkins (6.52).
The previous Arkansas Qualifier meet record of 6.56 was set in 2024 by Mario Burke of Barbados.
Following a 6.61 in the prelim, Letebele set an indoor career best of 6.55 to defeat Benjamin Azamati (6.59) and Maximilian Thomas (6.60) in the final. Letebele’s previous indoor best was 6.59 while he has run 6.53 at altitude in an outdoor 60m.
Scottie Vines cleared 7-1 (2.16) to win the high jump and had three attempts at the meet record of 7-3.25 (2.22).
Dapriest Hogans claimed the 200m in20.63 and moved to No. 8 on the UA all-time list. Jamarion Stubbs finished fourth overall in 21.15.
Alum TJ Tomlyanovich posted a winning time of 46.10 in the 400m as Razorbacks Zander Cruzan (46.30) and Zaire Nuriddin (46.69) were second and third. Julien Carter won another section of the 800m in 1:48.89 while Josh Rammage placed fourth in 1:50.11.
