Paulson named SEC Freshman of the Week

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. — Arkansas women’s tennis freshman Claudine Paulson was named SEC Freshman of the Week as announced by the league office on Wednesday.

"Claudine has been working extremely hard this season," head coach Michael Hegarty said. "and is very deserving of this honor."

Playing at the No. 1 doubles and No. 6 singles position, Paulson helped lead the Hogs to two victories over top ranked teams, including No. 26 Ole Miss and No. 50 Mississippi State. Paulson continues to kick-start the Hogs winning momentum, finishing first in the dual matches alongside freshman Kelsey Sundaram to earn Arkansas the early advantage. In singles action against Ole Miss, Paulson’s fierce serve was too much for her opponent Gabby Rangel. She overpowered to win the match in straight sets, 7-6(6). 6-0, earning her 14th win of the season. On Sunday, Arkansas returned to face Mississippi State. Paulson stepped up to lead the Hogs to a 7-0 shutout over the Bulldogs, with her win over Danielle Terpko, 6-1, 6-1. In doubles, with partner Anouk Tigu, ranked No. 54 in the country, the duo clinched the doubles point at the No. 1 position over Olyesa Tisgvtseva and Natalia Mayuk, 8-3. Paulson has proven to be a young leader for the Hogs and owns an overall combined record of 32-18, a dual match record of 9-3 in singles and an 8-5 record in doubles play.
