Persyn Races To SEC Accolades
BIRMINGHAM, Ala. – Arkansas newcomer Carter Persyn has been selected as the Southeastern Conference Freshman Runner of the Week, following his brilliant race last Saturday at the 28th Annual Chile Pepper Festival.
The award is the first for Persyn who has become the mainstay in the Razorbacks’ top seven during the last three competitions.
The freshman talent from Keller, Texas, completed the 8K race at Agri Park in 24 minutes and 27 seconds – over one full minute faster than his first attempt at that distance two weeks earlier in Boston.
His performance was good enough to earn him top 20 recognition as one of the best student-athletes in a field of 201 entries contending for a victory at the prestigious event.
Carter and his teammates will return to action at Pre-Nationals on Saturday, Oct. 15 in Terre Haute, Indiana, for their final meet of the regular season.
