Preseason Polls Dub Hogs National Contender
NEW ORLEANS – Primed to open its season at home this Friday, the Arkansas men’s track and field team will head into its 2018 indoor campaign at No.3 in the USTFCCCA preseason national rankings.
S-E-C, S-E-C
The Razorbacks are the third-highest ranked Southeastern Conference program in the nation behind No. 1 Florida and No. 2 Georgia. Widely considered the strongest league in the country, the SEC boasts four teams inside the top 10 (No. 9 Alabama) and six teams inside the top 20 (No. 17 Texas A&M and No. 18 Kentucky). Arkansas, along with Florida, Georgia and Texas A&M, capped the 2017 indoor season as one of the five best teams in the country.
New Year, Same Goal
Head coach Chris Bucknam returns several All-Americans from last year’s championships season including one of the NCAA’s best sprinters in senior Kenzo Cotton. Bucknam’s squad remains steadfast in their national title mission and with a roster riddled with top transfers and veteran contributors, the future appears to be bright.
Track AND Field
The 2016-17 John McDonnell Program of the Year, Arkansas’ key to success lies in its ability to generate success in all facets of the sport. The Hogs distance crew will be headlined by Jack Bruce and Alex George who led the Razorbacks to back-to-back NCAA top-five finishes in cross country. Cotton and Obi Igbokwe will carry the sprints banner, ensuring Arkansas’ success in the 60, 200 and 400-meter events. Off the track, Gabe Moore (multi events) and Travonn White (jumps) will provide the Razorbacks with some field firepower. The Razorbacks operate as a cohesive unit and are proponents of the ‘all hands on deck’ creed.
