LAST TIME OUT

  • Arkansas Women’s Basketball lost a second consecutive game this week as Kentucky defeated the Razorbacks, 78-55.
  • The home crowd totaled 8,292 fans inside Bud Walton Arena on Sunday to honor Arkansas senior Amber Ramirez.
  • It marked the eighth-largest crowd in Arkansas women’s basketball history.
  • Ramirez, who scored the first points of the game with a 3-pointer, totaled 18 points to lead the Razorbacks and connected on four three-pointers overall. Sasha Goforth followed with nine points and seven rebounds while Samara Spencer supplied eight and five assists.
  • Rhyne Howard led the Wildcats with 29 points, connecting on five 3-pointers and hit a perfect 6-for-6 from the free throw line, while collecting 10 rebounds. Dre’una Edwards followed with 17 points and 13 boards, 10 of which were on the defensive end. Kentucky held a 44-33 rebound advantage, with 29 defensive boards to take advantage of Razorback missed shots, with Arkansas getting just 11 offensive rebounds. The Wildcats also scored 22 points off turnovers compared to 11 for the Razorbacks.
  • Kentucky, who won its fourth consecutive league game, built a 23-14 advantage in the opening quarter, fueled by 11 points from Howard as she connected on a trio of three-pointers. By halftime, the Wildcats led 40-29 and extended it to 66-44 by the end of the third quarter. The Razorbacks last lead in the game was at 8-6 in the early stages.
  • The crowd of 8,292 was the eighth largest in Razorback Women’s Basketball history. The last time Bud Walton Arena saw a crowd of that size for women’s basketball was January 30, 2003 (vs. Tennessee, 11,014.)
  • Ramirez continued her scoring ways in the loss – she’s now scored in double-figures in 14 straight games.

STORYLINES

  • With 2022 in full swing, Arkansas is 16-10, and is 2-2 over its last four games.
  • Neighbors’ squad continues to hover towards the top of the NET rankings, and is 30th currently.
  • The Hogs lost their second straight game on Sunday, falling to Kentucky, 78-55.
  • Though it was a disappointing result on senior day, there were a few positives.
  • For starters, Makayla Daniels returned to the lineup after missing four games with an injury. She’ll look to get up to speed ahead of the postseason.
  • It was the first time the Hogs have had their full roster available since December 5, when the Hogs hosted Cal.
  • The 8,292 Hog fans that came out to honor Amber Ramirez on senior day marked the eighth-largest crowd in program history.
  • Before that, Arkansas fell on the road to #17 Florida, 76-67. The Hogs had 20 turnovers in the game, a season-high, only made one three, a season-low, and lost by just nine on the road.
  • On Feb. 13, the Razorbacks dominated Missouri on the road, 88-71.
  • The Hogs torched the Tigers in the second half, outscoring them 54-30.
  • Coach Neighbors’ team also dominated Mizzou on the glass in this one, 49-37.
  • Amber Ramirez kept on going against Mizzou, dropping in 25 more points.
  • Samara Spencer and Jersey Wolfenbarger both enjoyed their returns to the lineup – Spencer scored a career-best 22 points, while Wolfenbarger double-doubled (12 points, 11 rebounds).
  • Before that, Arkansas downed Auburn at the buzzer, 68-66.
  • One could argue it will stand as Arkansas’ most important win of the season – the Hogs played the game without Makayla Daniels, Spencer and Wolfenbarger, three starters.

SCOUTING OLE MISS

  • Arkansas and Ole Miss has turned into a rivalry in the league, especially in the last year.
  • Arkansas won the last regular season meeting, 84-74, behind a masterclass from Chelsea Dungee, who scored 38 points in the win.
  • The Rebs had the last laugh, though, as they upset Arkansas in the SEC Tournament last season, 69-60.
  • Shakira Austin was a force in the upset – she scored 29 points and pulled down 13 rebounds.
  • Austin is the head of the snake again this season for Ole Miss, as she is averaging just under 15 points and nine rebounds per game.
  • The sure-fire WNBA first round pick will look to have another big game against Arkansas. She’s coming off a 22-point, 15-rebound outing against Vanderbilt.
  • The Hogs will see another familiar face when they travel to Oxford on Tuesday, as Angel Baker now plays for the Rebs.
  • Baker, who transferred in from Wright State, was part of the Raider team that stunned the Hogs in the NCAA Tournament last season.
  • Baker put on a show in that game, scoring 26 points on 50 percent shooting. She also grabbed 12 rebounds.
