LAST TIME OUT

  • Arkansas Women’s Basketball earned a tough win in Bud Walton Arena on Thursday night, as Head Coach Mike Neighbors’ Razorbacks grinded out a gutsy 66-62 win over Jackson State.
  • Fayetteville native Sasha Goforth met the moment, hitting the game-winning three with 43 seconds left.
  • She posted her first double-double as a Hog, scoring 11 points and grabbing 10 rebounds.
  • Razorbacks Samara Spencer and Makayla Daniels were instrumental in the win for the Hogs, going for 14 and 16 points, respectively.
  • Jackson State would not go down without a fight, already falling in close games this season against Miami, Ole Miss and No. 11 Texas.
  • The Tigers grinded out a physical third quarter and ended the frame on a 9-0 run. It was the visitors who had a three-point lead with the final 10 minutes to play, and both teams struggled to gain an edge late.
  • It was not until the final minute when Goforth, who was 0-4 from deep on the night at that point, sunk a long ball to give Arkansas a two-point lead.
  • A couple defensive stops later, Arkansas had extinguished the valiant effort of Jackson State and notched the Razorbacks’ second win of the week.
  • Goforth’s double-double was the first by a Hog since Destiny Slocum (22 points, 10 assists, at Missouri, 2/4/21) posted one last season.
  • Daniels grabbed eight boards and dished out three assists to go along with her team-high 16 points.
  • Spencer swiped four steals and added four assists to complement her 14 points on the night.

STORYLINES

  • 10 games into the young season, Arkansas is 8-2, and has won six of its last seven.
  • Arkansas is up to No. 22 in the NET rankings.
  • Most recently, Arkansas won its second straight home game, taking down Jackson State, 66-62.
  • Sasha Goforth hit a big-time three with 43 seconds, and it turned out to be the game winner.
  • Goforth double-doubled in the game, going for 11 points and 10 rebounds.
  • It was the first double-double of her Arkansas career.
  • Arkansas got back into the win column on Sunday after a tough loss at UCF, taking down Cal in Bud Walton Arena, 84-67.
  • Makayla Daniels was the star of the show against the Golden Bears, going for a career-best 32 points in the win, making 11 of her 15 shots, including four of six from distance.
  • Daniels led the team in scoring against Jackson State, as well, dropping in 16 more points.
  • Daniels has really started to round into form – through 10 games, Daniels leads the team in scoring (14.3 PPG), assists (3.0 APG), and steals (1.7 SPG), and is second in rebounding (5.7 RPG).
  • Goforth was also great in the win over Cal, going for a season-high 19 points.
  • Some of Arkansas’ players may have changed, but Head Coach Mike Neighbors’ offensive philosophy has not.
  • That philosophy continues to work, too, as Arkansas’ 81.1 PPG is the 20th-best mark in the NCAA so far this season.
  • The Hogs continue to get a large share of their points from the three point and free throw lines, while also taking care of the basketball.
  • The Razorbacks rarely give the ball away, as their 11.4 turnovers per game is the fifth-best mark in the nation.
  • The Hogs are also getting to the line a ton, as their 233 free throws attempted through 10 games is the third-most in the nation.
  • Arkansas has made 161 of those attempts, which is good for second-most in the nation.
  • From beyond, Arkansas is back in the top-15 nationally, as they have hit 85 threes so far this season, 11th-most in the NCAA.
  • The Hogs’ 264 three-point attempts this season is the 7th-highest clip in the NCAA.
