LAST TIME OUT

  • No. 20 Arkansas (12-1) finished its non-conference schedule strong on Sunday afternoon, beating UT Martin (4-7), 96-46, in the last game of the decade.
  • With the win, the Hogs are now off to a 12-1 start, the best start for the Razorbacks since 2013-14, when the Hogs opened the season with 13 straight victories.
  • The Hogs’ current seven-game winning streak is the longest for the Razorbacks since 2016, when they won nine straight games to open up the season (11/11-12/7/16).
  • Alexis Tolefree once again led the way for the Razorbacks, going for a career-best 23 points against the Skyhawks. The senior guard did most of her damage from beyond the arc, going six of 12 from deep, matching her career-high in 3PM.
  • Defensively, Head Coach Mike Neighbors’ squad had very active hands, recording 18 steals, the most since the Hogs posted 20 against Oral Roberts back in 2013 (11/13/13).

STORYLINES

  • Tolefree and Ramirez have been arguably the most lethal three-point shooting tandem in the country this season.
  • Arkansas is one of just two schools to have two players in the top-20 in 3PT FG percentage, as Ramirez ranks 18th (46.0), while Tolefree ranks 13th nationally (46.6).
  • However, the volume is what separates the Hogs’ duo. Maryland, the only other school with two top-20 percentage shooters, has 65 made threes between their duo.
  • Tolefree and Ramirez, meanwhile, have combined for a staggering 80 treys.
  • Coach Neighbors’ 2019 Hogs have been great offensively, and a lot of that has to do with their proficiency in three areas: Three-Point Shooting,
Free Throw Shooting, and Lack of Turnovers.
  • Arkansas has gotten a lot of its offense from beyond the arc, where the Hogs have been elite. They are making 9.8 three-balls a game, the sixth-best
mark in the NCAA and the second-most among Power-5 teams.
  • That volume paired with the team’s efficiency from beyond (37.6 percent, 20th-best in the NCAA) has yielded great results in the early going for
    the Razorback attack.
  • Neighbors’ bunch has also been elite from the charity stripe so far this season, as the Hogs currently lead the NCAA in free throws made (254) and
    in free throw attempts (344).
  • The Hogs also play an incredibly efficient style, only turning the ball over 10.7 times a game on average. That is the third-best mark in the NCAA,
and the best mark among Power-5 Teams.
  • Though Neighbors’ squads are not usually known for their defense, this team has been stifling in some important areas through the non-conference
    part of the 2019-20 schedule.
  • The Hogs currently lead the country in three-point percentage defense. Opponents are shooting just 19.1 percent from deep against the Razorbacks.
  • Neighbors’ bunch has been good finishing their defensive possessions, too, as the Hogs are currently the 10th-best team in the NCAA in defensive
    rebounding average (31.5).

SCOUTING TEXAS A&M

  • Texas A&M will serve as a stout first test for the Razorbacks as SEC play begins.
  • The teams last met last spring in the semifinal of the SEC Tournament. The Hogs won in stunning fashion, scoring the game’s final 17 points, earning their first ever trip to the SEC Tournament Final. They also became the lowest seeded team ever to make the Final (10).
  • A&M has been a force to start this season, though, and were picked by the League’s Coaches to win the SEC Title.
  • Their only loss this season came vs. then-No. 12 Florida State at the Maggie Dixon Classic.
  • A big reason for the Aggies’ success this season is Chennedy Carter.
  • The preseason pick for SEC Player of the Year, Carter is currently averaging 22.8 points per game, good for fifth best in the NCAA.
  • She has scored in double-figures in 52 straight contests. The Preseason Wooden and Naismith Award Nominee also has 50 assists already this season.
  • A&M also has two stellar rebounders on its roster, as N’dea Jones (10.1) and Ciera Johnson (7.0) combine for just over 17 boards a game.
  • Shambria Washington has been great running the show for Head Coach Gary Blair this season, as the senior currently sits in second in the SEC averaging 4.6 assists per game.
  • She also ranks sixth with a 2.1 assist/turnover ratio.
