Preview – Razorbacks Host Auburn for Play4Kay, Pink Game

FAYETTEVILLE – The Arkansas women’s basketball team (16-7, 4-4 SEC) will look to get back in the winning column, as the Hogs host Auburn (14-7, 3-5 SEC) on Sunday night for the team’s Play4Kay game. Tipoff is set for 5 p.m. at Bud Walton Arena and will be broadcast on SEC Network. Fans are encouraged to wear pink.

STORYLINES

  • Halfway through the SEC slate, Arkansas is 4-4 in league play and looking to bounce back from an 86-70 loss to Alabama on Thursday
  • The Hogs are 16-7 in the regular season, already clinching a regular season winning record for the sixth straight year, all under head coach Mike Neighbors
  • Arkansas is set to host Auburn on Sunday night for the team’s Play4Kay game, in which the Hogs will wear the white jerseys with pink razorstripes
  • The Hogs have won six straight over Auburn with the last two games decided by three points or less
  • Auburn’s head coach Johnnie Harris was an assistant at Arkansas from 2004-07
  • Arkansas is in a three-way tie for sixth in the league with Alabama and Vanderbilt, each posting a 4-4 mark through the halfway point of league play
  • Taliah Scott leads the Hogs in scoring with 21.5 points per game and is the only player in the SEC to average 20.0+ points per game. She was leading the league in scoring and minutes/game (36.3) before her six-game absence, and made her return to the court last Thursday against Alabama
  • Poffenbarger is one of the top defensive rebounders in the country and just recently surpassed 500 career rebounds, needing only 57 games to do so. She leads the team and the SEC in defensive rebounds/game (9.8) and is second in rebounds/game (12.1), which are second and third, respectively, in the NCAA. She has pulled down 266 boards, which surpasses the total she had all season as a redshirt freshman in 2022-23
  • Samara Spencer leads the team with 81 assists. Her 331 career assists is No. 13 on the career list and her 1,233 points is No. 22 on the all-time scoring list
  • Maryam Dauda has made a big jump this season, pacing the team with 58 blocks, which is third in the league and her 3.6 blocks per game in SEC contests paces the league. She is No. 6 on the individual season block list at Arkansas
  • Makayla Daniels is an elite defender and leads the team with 42 steals. She is the highest scoring point guard in school history with 1,728 points, which is the seventh most in school history, while holding a program’s most starts and games played records with 145. Daniels was selected on the All-SEC Preseason Second Team, as chosen by the league’s coaches
  • The Hogs lead the league in 3-pointers per game (9.5), which is sixth in the NCAA, and 3-point attempts per game (30.5), a number that is second in the country, as well as least turnovers committed per game (12.7)

SCOUTING AUBURN

  • Auburn comes into Sunday’s game with a 14-7 record and is 3-5 in SEC play
  • The Tigers have quality wins over Washington State (W, 69-62) and No. 7/4 LSU (W, 67-62)
  • In the SEC Preseason Polls, Auburn was picked to finish 12th in the media and coaches polls. Last season, the Tigers finished 16-16, 5-11 in SEC play, and made it to the second round of the Postseason WNIT with a win over Tulane (W, 73-58) before losing to Clemson (L, 56-55)
  • Honesty Scott-Grayson is having a great season, leading the Tigers with 17.0 points per game
  • Taylen Collins paces Auburn with 6.4 rebounds per game and 16 total blocks
  • JaMya Mingo-Young has a team’s most 70 assists and Mar’shaun Bostic has a team’s most 37 steals
  • Arkansas native Coach Harris is in her third season at the helm of Auburn. Harris is coming off leading Auburn to its first winning record and postseason appearance in four years

HISTORY AGAINST THE TIGERS

  • Auburn leads Arkansas in the series, 23-21
  • The Razorbacks have won six straight over the Tigers and are 7-3 in the last 10 meetings
  • In games played in Fayetteville, the Hogs have the 10-9 edge
  • Coach Neighbors is 7-1 in his head coaching career against Auburn
  • The last two games of the series have been decided by three points or less, including last season when Arkansas defeated Auburn, 54-51 on the road. The Tigers had an opportunity to comeback, but the Hogs were able to gut out the win. Poffenbarger logged a double-double behind 10 points and 10 rebounds, while Daniels had 11 points, four rebounds and three steals, as well as a pair of clutch free throws
  • In the last meeting in Fayetteville, Arkansas won at the buzzer, 68-66, thanks to an Amber Ramirez bucket 

LAST TIME OUT

  • Arkansas fell to Alabama, 86-70, in which the Hogs were outscored 23-6 in the second quarter, the deciding factor in the game
  • Five Hogs ended the game in double digits in scoring, led by Poffenbarger, who earned her seventh double-double of the season behind 23 points and 11 rebounds with two steals
  • Spencer registered 14 points, seven rebounds and two assists
  • Daniels finished the night with 11 points, five assists and one block
  • Dauda logged 10 points, four rebounds, four assists and three blocks
  • In her return back from six games out due to injury, Scott came off the bench to log 10 points, three rebounds, two assists and two steals in nearly 29 minutes
  • The Hogs logged its 13th 10+ 3-pointer game of the season

UPCOMING

Arkansas will head back to the Sunshine State for the fourth time this season, as the Hogs will play at Florida on Thursday, Feb. 8 at Exatech Arena at the Stephen C. O’Connell Center. The game will tipoff at 5 p.m. CT on SECN+.
