#ProHog Jacob Skov Olesen Leads After Rd1 at The Open Championship
PORTRUSH, Northern Ireland – Razorback All-American Jacob Skov Olesen fired an opening-round 4-under-par 67 to sit atop the leaderboard at the 153rd The Open Championship.
Olesen shares the lead with Haotonh Li, Matt Fitpatrick, Christian Bezuidenhout and Harris English.
Olesen began The Championship with a birdie and, after five pars, birdied the par-5 7th to get to 2-under. He carded a bogey on the par-4, 8th and made the turn at 1-under. Olesen opened the inward nine as he did the outward nine, posting a birdie on the par-4 10th. He rolled in a 40-foot eagle putt on 12 and later chipped in from off the green to birdie the par-4 15th. He dropped a shot on 18 to post his 67.
Olesen’s success at The Open should not be a surprise.
Last year, he became the first Danish man to win The Amateur Championship. With that, he earned an exemption to The Open Championship last July and made the cut, thanks to 18 straight pars in round two. Also, prior to winning The Amateur Championship in 2024, Olesen led Team International to a win over Team USA by going 3-1 at the Palmer Cup in Lahinch, Ireland.
In his lone season at Arkansas, Olesen was tabbed second team All-America, voted first team All-SEC and was played as a member of Team International at the Palmer Cup. Statistically, he had the best season in Razorback history as he set UA records for season scoring (69.94) and rounds in the 60s (16) while tying the UA season record with 24 rounds at par or better. He finished with 10 top 15’s, five top 10’s and three top 5’s.
