> SOMETHING ABOUT THE PALACE. A top-15 matchup is going down inside Bud Walton Arena tonight as the No.15 Razorbacks host No. 4 Alabama in the Hogs’ fourth SEC game of the season.
The home court advantage has worked out well for Arkansas this year. The Razorbacks are 8-0 at home and have scored over 70 points for seven of those victories, and they’ll need every single basket they can get against the Crimson Tide. Both teams are amongst the 10 best in KenPom’s adjusted defensive efficiency rating.
Tip-off is at 6pm and can be watched on ESPN2. If you’re going to the game, be sure to arrive early to snag one of 4,000 miniature Bud Walton Arenas, and take home the Basketball Palace of Mid-America for yourself.
> GLASS MAGNETS. The front court for Arkansas men’s basketball has been a beacon of consistency in league play. Much of that is due to the work Makhi Mitchell has put in at the post.
Through three SEC contests, Mitchell is averaging 7.3 points and 8.7 rebounds per game, including two offensive boards per game. The duo of Mitchell and Jordan Walsh have given the Hogs a plethora of second chance opportunities as they’ve reeled in 16 total offensive rebounds over the last three games. They’ll need more against Alabama’s stout defense tonight.
> STAYING AHEAD. The 2023 track and field season is set to begin this weekend, and Arkansas will once more have one of the elite female athletes competing for them. Britton Wilson is one of 10 athletes named to The Bowerman 2023 women’s preseason watch list, announced by USTFCCCA this week. This is Wilson’s first appearance on the preseason watch list after she was a semifinalist for the award this past year.
Get caught up on Wilson’s incredible 2022 before the Hogs start the new season here.
> REWRITING THE BOOK. We’re gonna have to rename the SEC Freshman Player of the Week award in honor of Saylor Poffenbarger at this rate. Poffenbarger received the honor for the FOURTH time this season following her best week of play this season. She averaged 20.0 points and 7.0 rebounds across the Razorbacks’ two dominating wins over Florida and Missouri.
Poffenbarger and the 16-3 Razorbacks are also back in the USA Today Coaches poll at No. 23. Their next game is Monday, Jan. 16th vs. Vanderbilt.
Slowing down the tide. Q and Z check in with SEC Network basketball analyst Dane Bradshaw to get his thoughts on the Hogs and help us preview tonight’s big matchup with Alabama. Plus, hear from ESPN analyst Jay Bilas as he checked out the Razorback’s practice.
