Razorback Brew 1/17: The Bank Is Open

Good morning. When you need a bucket, never count out Makayla Daniels. Ever.

Go inside the locker room and get a sneak peek at what’s coming to Hogs+ after that insane buzzer beater as head coach Mike Neighbors and the team celebrates her moment of glory.

Now, what else is steeping in today’s Brew?

  • Muss recaps the week
  • Hogs take down Vandy at the buzzer
  • And much, much more!

Growing up fast. The young Razorback men’s basketball team is still ranked in the latest AP Poll, and many lessons were learned over the past week of play. Hear head coach Eric Musselman break down his team’s competitive growth and areas to improve in the latest edition of Eric Musselman Live.

> GAME, SET, MATCH. Makayla Daniels called game. And we all got to call the Hogs.

Tied at 81 after Vanderbilt made a clutch three-pointer of their own, Daniels pulled up from 40 feet with one second remaining and banked in the game-winning three ball to give Arkansas women’s basketball its fourth-straight victory. The Razorbacks had all five starters finish in double figures, with Samara Spencer leading the way with 23 points on 9-15 shooting.

What this team is doing is special. Now 17-3 on the year, Arkansas is one win away from matching last season’s total. They’ll go for win No. 18 Thursday night at LSU.

> FLAT OUT IMPRESSIVE. Barnhill Arena witnessed the Norah Flatley experience for the first time last week, and the graduate transfer didn’t disappoint. Norah won the vault and beam titles during Arkansas’ match against Alabama, and shared the bars title as well. It was her first all-around appearance as a Gymback, and she placed first with a 39.575.

> CATCHING UP. Razorback baseball has options when it comes to landing on a catcher this season. Newcomers Hudson Polk and Parker Rowland bring quality production at the plate to the Diamond Hogs, but who has the edge with the season now a month away? Click here to read what skipper Dave Van Horn had to say of his new behind-the-plate players.

> STILL D.R.E. Is it a coincidence the San Francisco 49ers put together the biggest victory of Super Wild Card Weekend in Dre Greenlaw‘s first game back? We think not. The former Razorback missed the Niners’ regular season finale with a back injury, and promptly returned to lead the defense in tackles with 11 during their 41-23 playoff win over the Seattle Seahawks.

> EMPTYING THE TANK. No one gives his all for Arkansas men’s basketball quite like Devo Davis.

The junior guard played the entirety of the second half during Saturday’s road game vs. Vanderbilt and scored a team-high 15 points in the final 20 minutes. It was the sixth time this season Devo has been on the floor for all of the second half. He’s averaging just under nine points per game and has 43 assists to just 24 turnovers this year.

Finding truths. When it comes to Hog basketball and the entire SEC, what’s fact and what’s fiction? Q and Z are here to separate the two in today’s episode.
