Razorback Brew 1/2: Winning In The New Year
Good morning. And welcome to the new year. 2023 begins with a busy week for both Hog basketball teams, and the ladies got off to a great start Sunday afternoon.
Stick around with us, it’s gonna be a great year.
What else is steeping in today’s Brew?
- 100 years of Arkansas basketball
- Hogs get first SEC win
- And much, much more!
A tradition of winning. That’s what Arkansas basketball has established in its 100-year history, and the Razorbacks aren’t stopping anytime soon.
This month, HogsPlus.com is releasing a three-part documentary celebrating 100 years of Arkansas basketball, with part one dropping on January 12th. Hear the most iconic names from past and present break down a century of Hogs hoops.
> BACK ON TRACK. Arkansas women’s basketball is undefeated in the new year as they defeated Kentucky 71-50 on Sunday afternoon to notch their first SEC win.
Erynn Barnum and Saylor Poffenbarger each had 17 points to lead the team, and the former was just two rebounds and three assists shy of a triple double. The Razorbacks also had a season-high 22 assists in the program’s first win in Lexington since 2003.

> FIVE FROM 365. There were so many memorable wins for Arkansas sports in 2022. To pick the five best from the past 365 days seems like an impossible task. Thankfully, the folks at Razorback Wire took a crack at it. Check out their top five list here.
> BATTER UP. One of the top hitters from the junior college level is poised to make a huge impact with the Diamond Hogs. Caleb Cali batted .419 and belted four home runs during fall ball, and manager Dave Van Horn thinks there’s much more in store for the right-handed slugger. Read more about what Cali can bring to the Razorbacks here.
> THE REAL MVPs. Yeah, we’re not done talking about the Liberty Bowl. One does not simply score 55 points without some outstanding individual performances. Here’s a few of our favorites from last Wednesday’s bowl win.
- KJ Jefferson, Rashod Dubinion, and AJ Green each had at least 100 rushing yards and combined for five touchdowns on the ground, with two coming in overtime.
- Matt Landers gained a whopping 121 yards on just three receptions. The biggest of the three was the game’s first touchdown as he took a KJ pass for 59 yards into the end zone.
- Dwight McGlothern hauled in his fourth interception of the season as he snagged one of three for the Razorback defense. The cornerback was also one of four defenders to end up with at least 10 tackles.
Creating possessions. Arkansas men’s basketball forced a whopping 27 turnovers in their last game, and UNC Asheville sports one of the highest turnover rates in the country. Z breaks down this perfect storm for the Hogs and more in today’s episode of The Razorback Daily.
