Razorback Brew 1/6: 102 And Looking Good
Good morning. The first full weekend of the new year is a busy one for the Razorbacks. Both basketball teams are on the road, and the Gymbacks will make their debut outside of Fayetteville as well.
So come on, take this Brew on the road with us.
- All-Access from the Liberty Bowl
- Razorbacks cross the century mark
- And much, much more!
A story to tell. Winning a bowl game ensures a legacy for every player involved. It’s what head coach Sam Pittman wanted for his team, and he got it in the wildest way imaginable.
Follow the Razorbacks through their emotional win over the Kansas Jayhawks in the 2022 Liberty Bowl. Go inside team meetings, the locker room on game day, hear the team huddles on the sideline, and get up-close access with Coach Pittman, KJ Jefferson, and the rest of the team. Plus, see behind-the-scenes footage of the team’s trip to Dave & Busters, where KJ channeled NBA star Ja Morant in pop-a-shot.
> WAIT, HOW MANY POINTS? Arkansas women’s basketball kept it 100 and added its two cents when it dropped 102 big ones on Florida Thursday night inside Bud Walton Arena. All five starters scored 15 points or more and the team tallied a season-high 23 assists. The Razorbacks’ 2-1 start to SEC play is their best since the 2010-11 season.
The Hogs and their 15-3 record have momentum on their side heading into the weekend when they’ll play at Missouri. Sunday’s game will start at 2pm and can be watched on SEC Network Plus.
> GOING FOR TWO. The No. 13 Razorback men’s basketball team will try to go 2-0 vs. ranked SEC opponents this week as they’ll face No. 22 Auburn on the Tigers’ home court.
Auburn’s defense is ranked 16th per KenPom’s efficiency rankings, but Arkansas’ offense has proven capable of putting up points despite a team-wide three-point percentage of just 29.2%. The Hogs’ defense is rated fifth in the same metric.
Tip-off on Saturday is at 7:30pm and can be watched on SEC Network.
> HUSK AWAY. The No. 15 Gymbacks begin their 2023 season this weekend with their first meet against the Nebraska Cornhuskers. Here’s what you need to know.
- Arkansas brings back three key returners in five-time All-American Kennedy Hambrick, Bailey Lovett, and Leah Smith.
- UCLA graduate transfer Norah Flatley, a three-time All-American and the 2022 College Gym News Comeback Gymnast of the Year has been added to the squad as well.
- The Razorbacks also add four freshman contributors in Reese Drotar, Jaime Pratt, Cally Swaney, and Lauren Williams.
The meet begins Saturday at 3pm in Lincoln.
> MOUND OF PRAISE. Arkansas pitcher Hagen Smith had an impressive freshman season for the Hogs, winning seven games and limiting opposing hitters to a .232 batting average.
The folks at Perfect Game are expecting great things from the southpaw this year as well. The publication listed Smith as a third-team preseason All-American.
It’s hard not to be excited about Smith after his pitching in the NCAA Tournament, where he went 1-0 in two starts and made two saves.
We talkin’ about practice. Can the Hogs get a second-straight top-25 win? Q and Z discuss men’s basketball’s upcoming road tilt, and catch up Arkansas softball coach Courtney Deifel with practices starting up this weekend.
