Razorback Brew 12/13: Earning The Spotlight

Good morning. And happy birthday to the one and only Taylor Swift. You better shake off those Tuesday blues, because we’re attacking today like it’s a Ticketmaster presale.

Now, what all is steeping in today’s Brew?

  • And the awards go to…
  • Drew Sanders receives AP All-America status
  • And much, much more!

Big wins call for bigger celebrations. Arkansas men’s basketball is riding a hot streak, and they notched a critical victory over Oklahoma this past weekend.

Go inside the locker room after the Hog’s big win versus the Sooners. Hear head coach Eric Musselman’s message to the team, and see who earned the postgame awards in this celebratory episode of Razorback Access.

> JUST THE BEGINNING. Arkansas guard Nick Smith Jr. put together an impressive week, and the SEC was put on notice.

The league named Smith the co-Freshman of the Week after he helped lead the Razorbacks to wins over UNC Greensboro and Oklahoma. Smith averaged 21 points per game on his way to sharing the honor with Alabama’s Noah Clowney.

Hear what has Anthony Black and Kamani Johnson excited about their teammate on this edition of My Time, on HogsPlus.com.

> MOVING FORWARD. In wake of Trevon Brazile’s injury, senior forward Makhi Mitchell has stepped up in a big way for the Hogs. Mitchell has averaged 11.3 points, 8.3 rebounds and 2.5 blocks in his last four games, while shooting over 70% from the field. Read Curtis Wilkerson’s piece on how Mitchell looks to be settling in at the right time, via HawgSports.com.

> NEW YEAR, NEW ADDITIONS. Arkansas women’s track and field will be adding sprinter MeKenze Kelley, and distance runner Laura Taborda to the program next month. Kelley won a gold medal at this year’s World U20 Championships, while Taborda has European Championship experience and qualified for the 2022 NCAA Championships in the steeplechase.

> KEEPING IT ALL TOGETHER. Being “the glue” for Arkansas’ women’s basketball is a role that Rylee Langerman has embraced, but it’s far from the only thing that matters to her. She’s dealt with alopecia—a skin disease that causes hair loss—from a young age, and the challenges she’s faced have only made her stronger.

Hear Langerman talk with Bo Mattingly about becoming an advocate and a leader in the community for a fan base she loves, and the glue that holds her team together on the latest episode of The Hog Pod.

> CLEAR CONSENSUS. Arkansas linebacker and future NFL playmaker Drew Sanders received a third All-American honor when the AP named him to their first-team list.

Sanders, who was named an American by the Walter Camp Football Foundation and Football Writers Association last week, becomes the first Razorback since Hunter Henry in 2015 to be named an AP first-team All-American.

Say what? Despite picking up two wins last week, Arkansas men’s basketball team dropped a spot in the AP Top 25 to No. 10. Q and Z try to make sense of the newest rankings in today’s episode of The Razorback Daily.
