Razorback Brew 12/19: Stole The Show

Good morning. Bradley Cooper. Bradley Pitt. Bradley University. Doesn’t matter. Hogs by 90 19. We’ve got Coach Muss mic’d up for his pregame speech, front and center for postgame awards after the victory, and much more behind the scenes from this past weekend. Just keep scrolling, y’all.

What else is steeping in today’s Brew?

  • Face to face with Ricky Council IV
  • Statement wins for men’s and women’s teams
  • And much, much more!

He’s not the first, second or even third. But Ricky Council IV is making a name for himself. Fourth, as his family calls him, has turned into a standout for the Razorback basketball team and currently leads the SEC in scoring.

And Council is attacking from the start in his first season at Arkansas after two at Wichita State, where he was the American Athletic Conference Sixth Man of the Year last season. But the junior has his eyes on much bigger prizes at Arkansas.

If the early returns are any indication, Fourth and the Hogs will have a chance to accomplish everything they want, and then some.

Rocked the vote. As Arkansas gears up for this year’s bowl game, Hogs+ wants to take a look back over the years and celebrate the biggest postseason performances in program history. You voted on your favorites and we’re featuring the top five this week just for you. Up today?

The 2012 Cotton Bowl saw the Hogs beat Kansas State for the first time in over 40 years and complete their first 11-win season in the SEC. Go even deeper inside the game that capped off one of the best years in Razorback history.

> STOLE THE SHOW. North Little Rock saw Christmas come a little early as Jordan Walsh scored a career-high 18 points and the defense forced 27 turnovers—a season-high away from Bud Walton Arena—to help the Razorbacks win 76-57 over Bradley this past weekend.

With three Hogs scoring at least 15 points in the contest, you’d think there would be plenty of SportsCenter-worthy highlights… and you’d be right.

> NO LOSSES. Arkansas women’s basketball earned a statement win of their own this weekend, winning 83-75 over No. 16 Creighton. The Razorbacks were paced by four players in double digits, led by Samara Spencer (26 points) and Saylor Poffenbarger (16 points). The 13-0 start matches the best start for the program since 2013.

> WORKIN’ FOR THE WEEKEND. T-minus nine days (and 10 or so hours) until Arkansas football kicks off against Kansas and this Liberty Bowl ain’t gonna prep itself. Go behind the scenes with this short teaser of the Razorbacks getting ready on the practice field.

> SNEAK PREVIEW. Arkansas gymnastics hosted its Gymback Preview intrasquad yesterday to give fans a first look at what the No. 15 ranked team in the country has in store for this season. There were big time beam routines from Bailey Lovett, a floor routine from Maddie Jones, and much more that’ll knock your socks off.

Watch highlights over at @RazorbackGym, and make sure you check out the full 2023 regular season schedule here.

Two for two. Arkansas’ men’s and women’s basketball teams had a big weekend, and Q & Z are here to recap the action in today’s episode of The Razorback Daily.
