Razorback Brew 12/20: Knighted Leader

Good morning. That weekend of Hogs hoops was great, so how’s three more games over the next two days sound?

Women’s basketball is on the west coast today for another ranked matchup, and football is introducing their new defensive play caller. Click here to watch Quinn Grovey and Coach Z interview Travis Williams in today’s Razorback Daily Dose, or catch it on Apple Podcasts or Spotify.

What else is steeping in today’s Brew?

  • Going back to the Outback
  • Welcome coach Williams
  • And much, much more!

Rocked the vote. As Arkansas gears up for this year’s bowl game, HogsPlus.com wants to take a look back over the years and celebrate the biggest postseason performances in program history. You voted on your favorites and we’re featuring the top five this week just for you. Up today?

The 2022 Outback Bowl capped off the Hogs’ first winning season in six years. It was the first bowl victory for head coach Sam Pittman, and it won’t be the last. Take a look back at everything that went down during last year’s postseason win.

> KNIGHTED LEADER. Travis Williams is Arkansas football’s new defensive coordinator. If that name rings an SEC bell in your head, you’ve got a great memory.

Williams played at Auburn from 2001-05 and was a two-time All-SEC linebacker. He even led the Tigers in tackles during their undefeated season in 2004. He later became a defensive assistant for the program in 2014, and co-defensive coordinator in 2018. Most recently, Williams spent the last two seasons calling the defense for UCF as the Knights’ defensive coordinator and linebackers coach.

Check out Williams’ introductory press conference with head coach Sam Pittman and recently hired tight ends coach Morgan Turner.

> OLD SCHOOL. While the students are away, it’s time for you to get in the game! Arkansas men’s basketball has a limited number of tickets available in the Trough Student Section due to the Holiday Break. Here’s your chance to be a student for a game…AND have great seats. Click here to secure your spot in the Trough.

> CHAMPION INBOUND. The future of Arkansas men’s golf is as bright as ever. Signee Rex Hargrove, who will join the Razorback golf program for the 2023-24 season, won the Jones Cup Junior Invitational Championship this past weekend at Sea Islands’ Seaside Course. Hargrove turned in rounds of 75-71-65 to win the 54-hole event by one stroke with an even-par total of 210.

> STILL RISING. Arkansas women’s basketball climbed to No. 17 in the latest AP poll following their 83-75 win over Creighton on Saturday and remain one of 10 undefeated programs in the country. This is the highest AP ranking the Hogs have achieved since 2020 after their 9-1 start that season.

Unlike the start of that season, Arkansas has yet to lose so far this year, and they’ll face another ranked opponent today. The 13-0 Razorbacks will go up against the new No. 16 team in the country, Oregon, in the San Diego Invitational. Tip-off is at 3pm, so be sure to stream it on FloHoops.

Nice to meet you. Q and Z introduce you to Arkansas’ new defensive coordinator, Travis Williams, in today’s episode of The Razorback Daily.
