Razorback Britton Wilson named semifinalist for The Bowerman

NEW ORLEANS – Ten semifinalists selected for The Bowerman award on Monday includes Arkansas sophomore Britton Wilson. The NCAA 400m hurdle champion is one of five SEC athletes among the women named as semifinalists.

Having been named to The Bowerman watch list following her stellar performance as a double SEC Outdoor champion in the 400m and 400m hurdles, Wilson becomes the fifth Razorback to be selected as semifinalist for The Bowerman, collegiate track & field’s highest individual honor.

“Britton has kind of rewritten the record books and has done a fantastic job this season, indoors as well as outdoors,” noted Arkansas women’s head coach Lance Harter. “The idea that we are in the conversation about another Bowerman nominee is a great honor for our program, and especially for the individual such as Britton.”

Previous Bowerman semifinalists from the Razorback women’s program include Tina Sutej (2011), Sandi Morris (2015), Dominique Scott (2016), and Janeek Brown (2019). Sutej and Brown were both named finalist for the award.

The three finalists for the 2022 women’s Bowerman will be announced next Monday, June 27.

“It’s hard to believe that one young person like her can do so much damage to the NCAA competitive schedule as she did,” added Harter. “Obviously, we’re super excited that she is a Razorback and we’re real excited about her future.”

Next up for Britton is the USATF Championships, which will be held at Hayward Field in Eugene this week, June 23-26. On the line are berths to the World Championships. In the 400m hurdles, Delilah Muhammad holds a wild card for the 2022 World Champs, which will also be held in Eugene in July, and there will be three additional spots on Team USA in this event.

Wilson’s career best of 53.75 from this season ranks fourth on the 2022 world list, and she is second among Americans.

“Britton, with the whole world watching, has run so phenomenally,” noted Harter. “Now, we’re going to take a big step to the USATF level of competition and try to see if she can make the World Championship team. That would be icing on the cake for a fantastic year.”
