Razorback Duo, Ben Weintraub Advance to Quarterfinals at ITA Central Region Championships
NORMAN, Okla. – The Arkansas men’s tennis team continued play today at the ITA Central Region Championships as Connor Smillie and Jakub Vrba advanced to the quarterfinals of the doubles main draw and Ben Weintraub advanced to the quarterfinals of the singles main draw.
The Razorbacks opened the third day of competition with six players taking the court in the singles Round of 32 while two competed in the singles consolation draw. Gabriel Elicha Navas coasted to a 6-4, 6-2 win over Leandro Zgraggen (Memphis) in his first match of the day. In the Round of 16, Elicha Navas faced No. 73 Rodriguez Rodriguez (Oklahoma), dropping the match in straight sets.
Ben Weintraub impressed in his Round of 32 match as heard a victory over Alejandro Melero (Oklahoma), 6-3, 6-3. Weintraub then came back to best Zaid Mashni (Wichita State), 5-7, 6-0, 6-0 to advance to the quarterfinals.
Smillie and Marino Jakic both picked up wins in the consolation draw as they both enter the quarterfinals tomorrow.
In the doubles main draw, No. 25 Smillie and Vrba claimed their spot in the quarterfinals after defeating Seger/Tettamble (Tulsa), 8-6.
