Razorback newcomers Morton and Sanchez earn SEC weekly honors
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – Razorback freshmen Ashley Morton and Maria Jose Sanchez were selected as honorees for the SEC’s Freshman Athlete of the Week and Diver of the Week awards for their standout performances against Drury in their first meet as Razorbacks.
Ashley Morton, a Sugar Hill, Georgia native, earned points in each of the 3 events she swam in, and she also posted a first-place finish in the 200 Backstroke.
Maria Jose Sanchez posted a score of 290.48 on 1-meter, and on the 3-meter, Sanchez dove to a stellar 314.78. Both of Sanchez’s scores are NCAA Zone Qualifying scores. Sanchez is a native of Mexico City, Mexico and has had great success in international diving competitions.
The Razorbacks will be back in action at the Arkansas Natatorium on Saturday, October 12th at 10:00am CST as they host SEC opponent Missouri.
