2B Robert Moore

Second baseman Robert Moore, the consensus preseason All-American, reached base in all three games on Opening Weekend, slashing .364/.462/.909 with three runs scored, four extra-base hits, including three doubles and homer, three RBI and two walks. Moore powered the Razorbacks’ offense in Saturday’s 5-1 win with a solo home run as well as a two-run double. He finished the series strong on Sunday, collecting two more doubles with two runs scored to help No. 2 Arkansas win the first series of the 2022 season.

RHP Jaxon Wiggins

Jaxon Wiggins turned in the longest start of his collegiate career against Illinois State in Sunday’s 4-2 win, tossing five innings of one-run ball with five strikeouts in his first outing of the 2022 campaign. The sophomore teamed up with reliever Kole Ramage to punch out 11 Redbirds and help the Razorbacks clinch the series win on Opening Weekend.

Freshman of the Week
LHP Hagen Smith

Stats (1 GP/1 GS): 1-0, 6.0 IP, 5 H, 0 R, 0 ER, 1 BB, 5 SO

Making his collegiate debut against Illinois State on Opening Weekend, left-hander Hagen Smith fanned five over six scoreless innings to lead the second-ranked Hogs to a 5-1 win against Illinois State on Saturday. The true freshman retired the first six Redbird batters he faced to begin his career, turning in a quality start in his first collegiate outing. Smith’s strong debut helped Arkansas rebound from its Opening Day loss to Illinois State as the Razorbacks proceeded to clinch the series with a 4-2 win in Sunday’s finale.

Razorback Notes

  • Since Dave Van Horn’s first season as skipper in 2003, the Razorbacks have won 17 consecutive season-opening weekend series when facing a single opponent for all three games.
  • Arkansas set an all-time attendance for Opening Weekend, drawing 31,456 fans over three games at Baum-Walker Stadium to begin the 2022 season.
