Razorback Volleyball Starts Fall Season in Starkville

FAYETTEVILLE – The University of Arkansas volleyball team finally has their sights set on their season opener for the 2020 season, ready to open the slate at Mississippi State in Starkville, Miss.

Arkansas has seen much success against Mississippi State in the past, sweeping the series versus the Bulldogs last season with a 3-1 win in Starkville in late October and a five-set victory at home on Senior Day on Nov. 24.

Fifth-year head volleyball coach Jason will look to continue his undefeated streak against MSU, heading into the weekend with a clean 7-0 record against the Bulldogs. Historically, the Razorbacks have fared well in Starkville, dropping only four matches, and winning 19 since the series began.

Watson added four newcomers to his roster on signing day back in November. The signees reign from four different states that together have combined for six state titles, two regional titles, and a national championship club title. Together, Jordyn Gates, Clara Parker, Hailey Schneider and Taylor Head make up Arkansas’ 2020 freshman class.

Fans can be excited about the return of redshirt-junior Hailey Dirrigl, who missed the majority of the 2019 season due to injury. She now adds to the extensive Razorback offense that includes returning sophomores, Maggie Cartwright and All-SEC Freshman selection, Jillian Gillen.

Arkansas also returns key players in Gracie Ryan (4.41 assists per set), Savannah Downing (2.46 digs pet set), Elizabeth Pamphile (.88 blocks per set) and Lauren Evans (.30 service aces per set).

The Hogs and Bulldogs will play on back-to-back days, facing off at 11 a.m. on Saturday (Oct. 17) and then at noon on Sunday (Oct. 18). Fans can watch both matches live, Saturday will be available via SECN+ and Sunday will be aired on ESPNU.
