Razorbacks 4th After 2nd Round at CABO
LOS CABOS, Mexico – Arkansas had three golfers shoot under par on Monday and the Razorbacks posted a 2-under-par round of 282 to stand in fourth place after 36 holes at the 15th annual CABO COLLEGIATE, played at the par-71 Twin Dolphin Club.
The Razorbacks dropped one spot after the opening round as #21 Florida State moved into third. The Seminoles turned in a 7-under 277 for the best round of the day. Third-ranked Arizona State padded its first-round lead with a 5-under 279 and is -13 (555) after two rounds. Sixth-ranked Oklahoma State remained in second with a two-day total of 564 (-4).
Arkansas is eight shots ahead of fifth, held by #19 Texas Tech at +9 (577).
Thomas Curry paced the Razorbacks on day two with a 2-under 69. He jumped 15 spots in the standings into a tie for 12th with Razorback freshman Erich Fortlage, who posted a 1-under 70. Gerardo Gomez also shot a 1-under 70 in round two and he is tied for seventh.
Curry (73-69=143/E) began his round with a par on the par-4, 4th. He dropped a shot on the par-4, 7th but birdied the par-4, 9th to get back to even. He also posted birdies on 11 and the 1 with nine pars to close out his round.
Fortlage (72-70=142/E) started on hole one and reeled off six pars to start his day. He moved to 2-under with birdies on holes 7 and 8. However, Fortlage bogeyed his next three holes to fall to 1-over through 11. He birdied 13 only to fall back to 1-over with a bogey on 14. Fortlage rallied with birdies on holes 16 and 17 for his 1-under round of 70.
Gomez shot 70 for the second-straight round and moved up three spots into a tie for seventh with his 1-under 70 on Monday. He offset bogeys on holes 4 and 8 with birdies on holes 3, 5 and 7 before closing his round with 10 straight pars for his round of 70.
Manuel Lozada and John Daly II are tied for 38th at 147 (+5).
Playing as individuals, Rex Hargrove and Pablo Garcia Terol are tied for 75th at 158 (+16).
The third and final round is set for Tuesday.
