Razorbacks and Arkansas alums shine in Twilight

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas Twilight featured victories by current Razorbacks as well as Arkansas alums at John McDonnell Field on Friday evening.

Wins for current Razorbacks included Connor Washington in the 200m, Matthew Lewis-Banks in the 110m hurdles, and Christian Matamoros in the high jump.

Washington sped to a 20.64 victory over a 21.16 by Oklahoma’s Alajuwan Robinson while Cade Clark ran a career best of 21.71 to place third in his section and fifth overall.

A 13.87 by Lewis-Banks earned a victory over teammate Tre’Bien Gilbert (13.89) while Shaka Bogan was fifth with a career best of 13.28.

Matamoros led an Arkansas 1-2-3 sweep in the high jump, clearing 6-11 (2.11), while teammates Tomas Ferrari and Adam Clark both made 6-7 (2.01). Etamar Bhastekar cleared 16-10.75 (5.15) as runner-up in the pole vault.

Arkansas won the 4 x 100 relay in 39.90 with a line-up of Ayden Owens-Delerme, Roman Turner, Washington, and Phillip Lemonious.

In the 4 x 400 a pair of Razorback teams finished in 3:10.89 and 3:11.26. The winning crew included Jeremy Farr, James Milholen, Brandon Battle, and Leroy Russell III. The second quarter had Ethan Carney, Jadon Bartholomew, Phillip Anderson, and Kieran Taylor.

Jarrion Lawson enjoyed a double victory in winning the 100m in 10.30 while claiming the long jump with a leap of 26-3.75 (8.02). Lawson bettered the meet record of 25-9.25 (7.85) set by Razorback Alain Bailey in 2010 in finishing ahead of Will Williams (25-9.5 | 7.86) and Arkansas alum Laquan Nairn (25-2.5 | 7.68). Current Razorback Ryan Brown finished as the top collegian in fourth place with a 24-6.5 (7.48).

Finishing behind Lawson in the 100m was Turner with a 10.39.

Marqueze Washington finished in front of a crew of Razorbacks in the 400m, setting a career best of 45.62 to better the meet record of 45.93 set in 2012 by Fernanda Blakely. Oklahoma’s Marlowe Mosley finished second in 46.12 as an Arkansas trio placed 3-4-5 with Milholen (46.67), Battle (46.72), and Farr (47.59).

Sullins, who established a meet record of (70.36) last season, defended his hammer title with a toss of (69.08). Ben Ryer surpassed 200 feet for the first time as he threw a career best of (61.59) to place fifth with Ruben Banks sixth with a (59.91).

Kemar Mowatt ran 50.54 as runner-up in the 400m hurdles to a 49.42 meet record by Isaiah Levingston of Oklahoma, who broke the meet record of 50.12 set in 2016 by Neill Braddy. Decathlete Wolf Mahler finished third in 51.16 while Arkansas redshirt Devontie Archer posted a 53.20 in fourth.

Racing in the 800m, Elias Schreml posted a career best of 1:49.87 as runner-up to a 1:49.34 for Oklahoma’s Anass Mghari. Ricardo Banks clocked a PR of 1:50.46 for third while Ethan Carney ran 1:51.88 in sixth.

Placing fifth in the 1,500m, Andrew Kibet posted a 3:44.63 while a pair of Arkansas redshirts placed sixth and seventh with Lexington Hilton (3:44.80) and Ben Shearer (3:45.20).

Mat Clark, Arkansas Strength & Conditioning coach, scored 3,569 points during the first day of the USATF Combined Events Championships and is currently in 14th place.

The first day leader is Georgia’s Kyle Garland with a career best of 4,660 points. Defending champion Garrett Scantling is stationed in second place with 4,503 points while Zachery Ziemek is third at 4,404.
