Razorbacks At LSU In Rematch

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. –The University of Arkansas women’s basketball team will hit the road this weekend traveling to LSU for Sunday action as Southeastern Conference play continues.

The Razorbacks (13-7, 2-5 SEC) are coming off a two-game home stand to travel to Baton Rouge, Louisiana, to face the Tigers (14-6, 3-4 SEC) for the second time this season.

Arkansas picked up back-to-back SEC wins at Alabama and against Vanderbilt and look to even the series with LSU after dropping the home contest to the Tigers by one point, 53-52, on Jan. 8. The Razorbacks won the previous four meetings and are now 2-1 under head coach Jimmy Dykes.

This meeting is the first time since 2011-12 that Arkansas and LSU have played a home-and-home series.

Arkansas is getting great production out of the point guard position with Malica Monk leading the Razorbacks in conference games averaging 10.0 points per game. Freshman Jailyn Mason and sophomore forward Keiryn Swenson each average 9.0 ppg in league play.

Monk and Mason have combined for a quarter of Arkansas’ points in conference play and have 37 assists, 10 blocks and 17 steals in seven games.

The Opponent
LSU is coming off a loss at Texas A&M last Sunday. The Tigers led by as many as 15 and had a seven-point advantage to start the fourth quarter but were outshot 18-9 in the final frame.

Raigyne Moncrief leads LSU averaging 15.0 ppg followed by Chloe Jackson with 14.7 ppg. Ayana Mitchell (5.4) and Alexis Hyder (5.1) are the Tigers’ top rebounders this season.

Notable
• Arkansas has shot 45 percent or better in eight games this season. Arkansas shot 45 percent or better twice all of last season (30 games) and six times all of 2014-15 (32 games). Arkansas is now 16-0 when shooting 45 percent or better under head coach Jimmy Dykes.
• Arkansas has held opponents under 30 percent shooting in six games this season: Sam Houston State (26.9), Louisiana-Monroe (22.1), Tulsa (29.7), Northwestern State (25.0), Houston Baptist (24.1) and LSU (28.8). They were close holding Alabama to 30.9 percent.
• Arkansas has had six different players score in double figures during the first half of games this season: Jessica Jackson (five times), Malica Monk (two times), Keiryn Swenson, Jailyn Mason and Alecia Cooley (two times). Devin Cosper accomplished the feat once this season.
• Arkansas has won the rebounding battle in 14 of 20 games this season, going 12-2 in those games and improving to 35-9 when winning the rebounding battle under head coach Jimmy Dykes
• In the first meeting, Devin Cosper (15) and Keiryn Swenson (10) led Arkansas in scoring.
• Arkansas outrebounded LSU 39-34 and held the Tigers to 28.8 percent from the floor.

Looking Ahead
The Razorbacks return home hosting Georgia on Feb. 2 and No. 5 South Carolina on Feb. 5. Arkansas plays four of its next six regular season games on the road traveling to Florida (Feb. 9), Missouri (Feb. 12), Tennessee (Feb. 19) and Vanderbilt (Feb. 23). Arkansas hosts Kentucky (Feb. 16) and Auburn (Feb. 26) as the SEC schedule winds down.
