Razorbacks break school record in 4 x 200 at Texas Relays

AUSTIN – Arkansas broke the school record in the 4 x 200m relay on the final day of the 96th Texas Relays, posting a time of 1 minute, 31.11 seconds as the top collegiate team in the two-section final.

To cap the Texas Relays, Arkansas won the University Invitational 4 x 400m relay with an outdoor collegiate leading time of 3:27.05 for the 2024 season.

Overall the Razorbacks claimed three relay races on the weekend – 4 x 200, 4 x 400 Invitational and distance medley – to bring their Texas Relays total to 13 relay wins.

It’s the first time for Arkansas to win three relays on the same weekend at the Texas Relays. Previously they claimed two wins in 2005 (4 x 800 & distance medley) and 2010 (4 x 400 & 4 x 800).

Running with a foursome of Nickisha Pryce, Amber Anning, Kaylyn Brown, and Rosey Effiong in the 4 x 200 the Razorbacks finished ahead of Texas (1:32.70), Oklahoma (1:33.64), BYU (1:34.72), and Clemson (1:34.78).

This marks the first time in the history of the Texas Relays for the Razorbacks to claim the top collegiate finish in the 4 x 200m relay and it became the 12th victory overall for the Arkansas women.

The time of 1:31.11 ranks Arkansas as the No. 8 school in collegiate history with the 20th performance. The Razorbacks previous school record of 1:33.04 was set during the 2012 Texas Relays with a crew of Gwendolyn Flowers, Tiffany Hines, Regina George, and Whitney Jones.

A mixed international professional team won the race in a world best of 1:27.05 with a line-up that included three Texas alums who set the collegiate and meet record of 1:28.05 last season.

British sprinter Dina Asher-Smith led off the quartet and was followed by the trio of Longhorn alums in Lanae Thomas, Rhasidat Adeleke, and Julian Alfred. They bettered the world record time of 1:27.46 set by the United States in 2000.

For the 4 x 400 University Invitational, the same Razorback foursome ran in the order of Brown, Anning, Pryce (51.73), and Effiong (51.19). The time for the combined first two legs was 1:44.13.

Finishing nearly a full second behind Arkansas was Houston in 3:28.01, followed by UCLA (3:31.27), Texas (3:33.19), Clemson (3:37.14), and BYU (3:37.55).

This was the third 4 x 400m relay victory for Arkansas at the Texas Relays. Previous wins were in 2010 (3:31.20) and 2023 (University division 3:29.96).

In the 4 x 400 University division, the Razorbacks placed sixth in 3:36.90 with a crew of Ashanti Denton, Sanu Jallow, Joanne Reid, and Ariane Linton.

The Saturday morning session included the 4 x 800m relay where Arkansas finished third with a time of 8:44.43 behind TCU (8:31.94) and Clemson (8:32.77). The Razorback foursome included Analisse Batista, Ainsley Erzen, Chachi Gonzales, and Mary Ellen Eudaly.

Racing in the professional 4 x 400 relay, the crew of Paris Peoples, Shamier Little, Britton Wilson, and Shafiqua Maloney finished second in 3:25.87 behind a world leading effort of 3:25.31 by Team International.
