Razorbacks Climb Into Lead at Palmas de Mar
HUMACAO, Puerto Rico – John Driscoll III fired a bogey-free 67 and John Daly II added a 68 as all six Razorbacks were under par in round two of the Palmas del Mar Collegiate. Arkansas was -12 (276) for the day and is tied with UNC Greensboro for the lead at -19 (557).
UNCG and Arkansas each held solid solo leads throughout the day before finishing tied atop the leaderboard. UNCG was 16-under for the day, jumping from third into the lead.
Arkansas is dominating the par 5s at -25 – five strokes better than the next closest team. For the two rounds, Daly and Matthis Lefevre are -7 on the par 5s.
Driscoll jumped four spots into a three-way tie for second at -8 (136) and one stroke off the lead. After his 69 in round one, the graduate senior now has seven rounds in the 60s of his 13 rounds played. On Monday, Driscoll birdied his second hole and had eight pars on the outward nine. He began his inward nine with birdies on 10, 11 and 13 then birdied the 609-yard, par-5, 16th before closing the round with pars for his 67.
Daly climbed six spots to stand in a tie for eighth (71-68=139 / -5). He began his day on the par-5, 3rd hole and, for the second straight day, carded an eagle. He added birdies on holes 7, 1o, 13 and 16 to go along with two bogeys. In 13 rounds this season, Daly has shot par or better 11 times.
Jacob Skov Olesen and Lefevre are tied for 11th, each at -3 (141). Olesen shot 71 yesterday and 70 today. Lefevre posted 70 yesterday and 71 today. Christian Castillo also shot 71 today and he jumped 17 spots into a tie for 33rd (74-71=145 / +1).
Manuel Lozada, playing as an individual, rocketed 21 spots up the leaderboard into a tie for 17th. The junior turned in a 69, with four birdies and a bogey, and is -2 for the tournament (73-69=142).
The third and final round of the Palmas del Mar Collegiate is set for Tuesday.
