Razorbacks Collect Two Wins on Opening Day in Cary

CARY, N.C. – Three members of the Arkansas women’s tennis team opened competition today at Cary Tennis Park in Cary, N.C., for the ITA All-American Championships. Anet Koskel earned a win in singles while Olga Bienzobas and Carolina Gomez Alonso teamed up to secure a doubles victory for the Razorbacks.

Koskel kicked off the day for the Hogs after entering the tournament as an on-site alternate with a 6-4, 4-6, 6-4 win over Zeynep Erman (Cincinnati) in the Round of 128 of the prequalifying singles draw. Koskel is set to face Alina Mukhortova (Wisconsin) in the Round of 64 tomorrow at 8 a.m. CT. If Koskel were to win her first match on Sunday, she will compete again later in the day in the Round of 32 for a chance to advance to the singles qualifying draw.

Bienzobas came up just short in her only singles match of the day, falling to Jasmine Conway (NC State) in three hard-fought sets in the Round of 128 of the prequalifying singles draw. Bienzobas will match up against Erika Dimitriev (NIU) tomorrow at 3 p.m. CT in the consolation draw.

In the prequalifying doubles draw, No. 71 Bienzobas/Gomez Alonso claimed their spot in the Round of 16 after a straight-set victory against Dmitrichenko/Sayfetdinova (Texas Tech). Their next match is scheduled to be played tomorrow evening at 6 p.m. CT as the duo will take on No. 81 El Allami/Keita (Columbia).
