Razorbacks Defeat Tigers in Regular Season Closer

COLUMBIA, Mo.  – The No. 40 Arkansas women’s tennis team closed out the regular season with a 4-2 win over the Missouri Tigers on Friday afternoon. The Razorbacks have now won their last three matches as they look towards the SEC Tournament at home next week, April 19-23.

Arkansas took their fourth straight doubles point to gain an early lead over the Tigers. On court three, Carolina Gomez Alonso and Kelly Keller were the first step towards the point with a 6-3 victory over Missouri’s Cardenas/Fay. It was Lenka Stara and Grace O’Donnell who clinched the point, earning a 6-3 win on court two.

The Tigers put up a fight in singles play, taking three of the first sets through four courts. Missouri was able to even the score with a victory over Kelly Keller on court one, but Indianna Spink put the Hogs right back up with a 6-4, 2-6, 6-2 win over Inah Canete. Freshman No. 44 Carolina Gomez Alonso earned her seventh straight win to put the Razorbacks within one. Gomez Alonso came back to defeat Missouri’s Emelie Schwarte 5-7, 6-3, 6-1 on court two.

Missouri took a point on court four with the final two matches just starting. Junior Morgan Cross was the dagger, clinching the match win with an impressive 6-2, 6-0 victory on court five.  Graduate student Kacie Harvey was up 5-0 in the first set before the match was clinched.

The Razorbacks return home to Billingsley Tennis Center next week as they prepare to host the SEC Women’s Tennis Tournament, April 19-23.
