Razorbacks Fall, 4-3, in Tough Loss to Seminoles
PALO ALTO, Calif. – The University of Arkansas women’s tennis team falls in a heartbreaking 4-3 loss to Florida State in the first match of the ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Razorbacks move to the consolation bracket and will face either No. 7 Stanford or Kansas State on Saturday.
In a delayed start, the match started out in singles play with doubles if necessary. The Razorbacks were off to a 0-2 deficit with losses on courts two and four. On court five, junior Morgan Cross grabbed the first Arkansas singles point with a 7-5, 6-1 victory over her Seminoles opponent. Senior Kelly Keller tied up the match with a three-set 6-2, 4-6, 6-1 win on court one. Florida State took court six to go up 3-2 with court three being the deciding factor of the match.
On court three, freshman Carolina Gomez-Alonso was in an all-out battle to determine whether the match would go to a doubles tie-break. It was back and forth with Gomez-Alonso forcing a third-set tiebreaker winning the match 5-7, 6-3, 7-6.
The doubles point would then decide the match. The Seminoles took court one 6-4 over Morgan Cross and Indianna Spink with the match coming down to tiebreakers on courts two and three. Florida State took the win with a tiebreaking 7-6 (3) victory on court three over Kelly Keller and Carolina Gomes Alonso.
The Razorbacks will face Kansas State at 12 p.m. CT in the consolation match.
