Razorbacks Fall in Second Round at SEC Tournament

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The No. 43 Arkansas women’s tennis team dropped a 4-3 decision to No. 47 LSU on Thursday night in their opening match of the SEC tournament. The Razorbacks won the doubles point to take the early advantage, but the Tigers battled back to win the final point on court six.

For the fifth consecutive time, the Hogs opened the match by taking the doubles point. On court three, Carolina Gomez Alonzo and Kelly Keller dominated their way to a 6-1 win over LSU’s Geissler/Rabinowitz. In the No. 2 spot, Lenka Stara and Grace O’Donnell clinched the doubles point for Arkansas with a 6-4 victory.

In singles play, the Razorbacks started off strong yet again, as Morgan Cross cruised past Rabinowitz in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4, on court five. The Tigers responded with a win from Geissler over Lenka Stara, 6-3, 6-4, in the No. 4 spot. On court two, No. 85 Keller added another commanding straight-set victory, upsetting No. 33 Collins, 6-4, 6-4.

However, LSU fought their way back by taking the next two courts to even the match. On court one, No. 14 Komar rallied after dropping the first set to take down No. 41 Gomez Alonzo, 2-6, 6-1, 6-2. In the No. 3 spot, Safiya Carrington bested Indianna Spink, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3. In the final match of singles play, LSU’s Nikita Vishwase defeated Kacie Harvey to clinch the victory for the Tigers, 6-7 (3), 7-6 (10), 7-6 (11).
