Razorbacks Fall to No. 21 Washington in NCAA First Round

NORMAN, Okla.  – The Arkansas women’s tennis team fell to No. 21 Washington in the first round of the NCAA Tournament. After winning the doubles point, Arkansas dropped four singles matches in the 4-2 decision. The Razorbacks end the season 12-12 overall.

The Razorbacks took a quick advantage, earning the doubles point with wins on courts two and three. Sophomore Grace O’Donnell delivered an ace to secure the 6-2 victory with partner Lenka Stara. On court three, Carolina Gomez Alonso and Kelly Keller secured the doubles point with a 6-3 win over Washington’s Sarah-Maude Fortin/Zehra Suko.

The Huskies came back in singles, taking first sets on four courts. Washington was able to take the 2-1 lead with wins over Arkansas’ Lenka Stara and Kelly Keller. Freshman No. 41 Carolina Gomez Alonso scored Arkansas’ only singles point of the match, earning a 6-2, 2-6, 6-2 victory over No. 109 Hikaru Sato. The Huskies secured the match win on court six, 7-5, 7-6 (3) over Razorback Kacie Harvey.

Razorbacks’ Carolina Gomez Alonso and Kelly Keller will continue play as they head to Orland, Fla. to compete in the NCAA Singles Championships beginning on May 22.
