Razorbacks Fall to No. 24 Northwestern at ITA Kickoff
ANN ARBOR, Mich. – The Arkansas men’s tennis team (5-1) suffered its first loss of the spring season, topped 4-0 over No. 24 Northwestern (4-1). The Razorbacks move to the consolation bracket and will face Cal Poly tomorrow at 9 a.m. CT.
In doubles play, the Wildcats took an early lead with wins on courts one and three for the doubles point. The doubles tandem of Jakob Mosvold and Gerard Planelles Ripoll fell early in 6-2 loss with courts one and two battling it out. In a match tiebreaker, the duo of Melvin Manuel and Stefanos Savva fell 7-5 to put Northwestern up headed into singles play.
The Razorbacks were looking for four wins in singles, with every match in a tight race. Northwestern took court three over junior Adrien Burdet, 7-5, 6-4 followed by a win on court one over Stefanos Savva in three-sets 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 to go up 3-0. The Wildcats grabbed the win on court six with freshman Gerard Planelles Ripoll suffering his first loss of the season 7-6 (6), 6-4.
