Razorbacks have pair of No. 1 teams entering NCAA Indoor
FAYETTEVILLE – The national ratings heading into the NCAA Indoor Championships this week have Arkansas men’s and women’s programs both No. 1 with the ratings based on entries for the national championship meet.
Both the Razorback men and women head into the 2024 NCAA Indoor Championships as defending team champions following their sweep in Albuquerque last March. This year’s meet will be held March 7-9 at the New Balance facility in Boston.
This year marks the 40th anniversary of Arkansas men’s first NCAA Indoor Championship and the Razorbacks have claimed 21 indoor national championships since the initial one in 1984.
The Razorback women have won a total of four NCAA Indoor championships, including three of the past four that have been held.
The Razorback men, with a leading total of 15 entries in 10 events, move into the No. 1 position for the first time this indoor season. They are followed by Texas Tech, Northern Arizona, Florida, Washington, USC, Texas, Nebraska, Alabama and Houston in the top 10.
Ranked No. 1 for six consecutive weeks, the Arkansas women have a leading total of 17 entries in nine events. They are followed by Florida, Texas, Oklahoma State, Oregon, USC, Ole Miss, Texas Tech, LSU, and Georgia.
The pair of national championships last season represented the 48th and 49th titles in Arkansas program history. It also marked just the fourth time a school has won both team titles in the same year.
Prior to the Razorbacks achieving the feat in 2023 it was accomplished by Oregon in 2016 with both Arkansas men and women finishing as runner-up that season. Previous team double champions included Arizona State in 2008 and LSU in 2004.
