Razorbacks Head to Lone Star State for Two Matches
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The University of Arkansas women’s tennis team (4-1) is back on the road as they travel to Texas for a pair of matches. The Razorbacks will face the Baylor Bears on Friday, Feb. 17 at 5 p.m. CT and then head to Dallas to take on the SMU Mustangs on Sunday, Feb. 19 at 11 a.m. CT.
Arkansas begins an eight-match stretch on the road after opening its home season last weekend with a win over Memphis. The Razorbacks have two ranked singles players and one ranked doubles team in its lineup. At the No. 3 spot, Carolina Gomez Alonso comes it at No. 45 in the latest ITA Rankings and is 2-0 this dual season. At the top position, No. 99 Kelly Keller is undefeated going 5-0 this dual season. In doubles, Lenka Stara and Grace O’Donnell are ranked No. 57 with a 1-0 record at the No. 2 position.
The Baylor Bears (7-3) are coming off of a 1-6 loss to No. 25 Wisconsin at home and are receiving votes in the latest ITA Rankings. In the loss to Wisconsin, the Bears one singles point came from Alina Shcherbinina at the top spot. Senior Isabella Harvison leads the team with a No. 108 ranking and a 6-2 record this dual season, playing primarily at the three spot. In doubles, Paula Baranano and Daniella Dimitrov are 3-3 in the No. 1 position and are on a seven-match win streak beginning in the fall season.
Last time out, the SMU Mustangs (3-3) fell to Arizona State, 2-5, and will take on South Florida before facing the Razorbacks. Senior Lana Mavor leads the team with six wins and is on a 12-game win streak through the fall, holding a 4-0 record at court six. In doubles, Taylor Johnson and Jackie Nylander are 4-2 and have won their last two matches.
