Razorbacks Head to Valspar Collegiate
FAYETTEVILLE – The Arkansas men’s golf team will look to get back on track at the Valspar Collegiate Invitational, played Mar. 24-25 in Palm City, Fla., at the par-71 Floridian National Golf Club.
The Razorbacks are coming off an 11th-place finish at the Seminole Intercollegiate and face an NCAA Championship-type, 16-team field this week. However, Arkansas won its spring opener at the Palmas Del Mar Collegiate and placed fourth at its own CABO Collegiate, an event that featured 10 of the nation’s top 51 teams including three of the top 10.
The Valspar Collegiate will have the top three teams in the latest NCAA rankings and 14 of the nation’s top 42 including #1 Auburn, #2 Texas, #3 Arizona State, #7 Oklahoma, #8 North Carolina, #14 Florida State, #17 Duke, #19 Vanderbilt, #21 Texas Tech, #22 Tennessee, #23 Texas A&M, #31 South Florida, #41 Wake Forest and #42 Houston. Arkansas and Ohio State round out the field.
This will be the eighth time Arkansas has competed in the Valspar Collegiate. Last year, Arkansas finished fourth in the 16-team field.
For the third-straight tournament, Arkansas will send the same five with Gerardo Gomez, Thomas Curry, Erich Fortlage, John Daly II and Manuel Lozada.
The event is scheduled to play 36 holes on Monday and a final 18 on Tuesday.
