Razorbacks move to No. 3, prepare to host SEC Indoor
FAYETTEVILLE – Arkansas will have a No. 3 national rating index as they host the SEC Indoor Championships this Friday and Saturday inside Randal Tyson Track Center with seven conference schools ranked among the top 25.
The defending SEC Indoor team champion Razorbacks are the highest rated conference school with Florida following at No. 6 with Alabama No. 9.
Northern Arizona moved in the No. 1 position with Texas Tech dropping into No. 2. Following Arkansas in the national ratings index for this week are USC, Washington, Florida, Texas, Nebraska, Alabama, and Wisconsin among the top 10.
Additional SEC teams in the top 25 include No. 11 Kentucky, No. 12 Georgia, No. 14 Texas A&M, and No. 16 South Carolina.
The Razorbacks lead the conference ratings, which measure the depth of a team, over Florida, Texas A&M, Alabama, Ole Miss, Tennessee, South Carolina, Georgia, LSU, Kentucky, Auburn, Mississippi State, and Missouri.
In event squad rankings, with the average performance of four individuals from the same school, Arkansas ranks No. 1 in the high jump and heptathlon.
Led by national leader Romaine Beckford at 7-5.25 (2.27), the Razorbacks average this season is 7-1.25 (2.17). Kason O’Riley has cleared 7-1.5, Andrew Hughes went over 7-1, and Tomas Ferrari has a 6-9.5 effort.
In the heptathlon, Arkansas has an average score of 5,851 points. Jack Turner leads the Razorback crew with 6,000 points and is followed by Yariel Soto Torrado (5,874), Marcus Weaver (5,814), and Daniel Spejcher (5,716),
Additionally, Arkansas ranks second in the 60m hurdles and 5,000m as well as third in the long jump. The average time in the hurdles is 7.77 with Tai Brown leading the squad at 7.63. In the 5,000m an average time of 13:26.66 is led by the UA record of 13:17.86 set by Peter Maru.
Wayne Pinnock remains the world leader in the long jump at 27-4.5 (8.34) where Arkansas has an average of 25-2.5 (7.68).
