Razorbacks Open Play At Aggie Invitational
BRYAN, Texas – The No. 25 Arkansas men’s golf team opened play in the Aggie Invitational on Saturday, firing rounds of 302-292 – 592 (+18) to sit T-9th place after 36 holes at the Jack Nicklaus designed Traditions Club.
In a field that features nine nationally ranked teams, the Razorbacks are deadlocked with Michigan, two shots behind No. 13 Texas Tech and five strokes shy of No. 7 Kent State. No. 8 LSU leads the field at 11-under, holding a one-shot lead over No. 4 Baylor.
Freshman Luis Garza ranks fourth in the field with nine birdies after rolling in six birdies in the morning round and adding three more in the afternoon to sit T-8th overall at 2-under. In the opening round, he recorded five of his six birdies during a seven-hole span on the back nine to race up the leaderboard. In afternoon he rallied with three straight birdies before finishing his round with 11 consecutive pars to stay in contention.
Freshman Mason Overstreet opened his day with a double bogey, but bounced back with three back-nine birdies to finish his opening round at 2-over. He followed with a 1-over 73 in the afternoon and sits alone in 27th place after 36 holes of play.
Junior Alvaro Ortiz is T-52nd overall at 8-over for the championship after four birdies in the morning round and one in the afternoon. William Buhl is T-60th and Dylan Naidoo is T-70th.
