Razorbacks Prepare for First Home Matches of Season

FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team opens its home slate with a doubleheader at Billingsley Tennis Center this weekend after a successful showing at ITA Kickoff Weekend. The Razorbacks (1-1) face the Drake Bulldogs (0-2) on Saturday, February 1 at 10 a.m. and 3 p.m.

The Hogs opened the spring season this past week in Stillwater, Okla., facing SMU and No. 4 Oklahoma State, respectively. Olga Bienzobas, No. 72 Carolina Gomez Alonso, Anet Koskel and Katarina Pavlechova all picked up singles wins against the Mustangs. On Sunday, C. Gomez Alonso earned a ranked victory against No. 48 Anastasiya Komar, winning 6-4, 6-4. In doubles, the duo of Bienzobas/C. Gomez Alonso secured a 6-3 victory against Oklahoma State’s Kylie Collins/Gracie Epps.

Drake is coming off an 8-13 season, going 4-4 in MVC play and ended last year with a 4-3 loss to No. 4 seed Belmont in the quarterfinals of the MVC Tournament. The Bulldogs return two players from last season’s team and have added four freshmen to this year’s squad. Drake is coming off of matches against Kansas State, falling 7-0 and 4-0 last weekend.
