Razorbacks Set to Open 2024 at the Duel in the Desert
FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. – The Arkansas women’s tennis team opens its spring slate this week as they travel to Indian Wells, Calif., for the Duel in the Desert. The preseason tournament runs from January 11-13 as the Hogs will face off against Clemson, Iowa State, and Kansas.
The Razorbacks will begin play each day at 2 p.m. CT, competing against all three teams in singles and doubles.
The Duel in the Desert marks the first event of 2024 for the Hogs, as the team will return home to host a doubleheader against Bradley next Saturday, Jan. 20, at the Billingsley Tennis Center. The Razorbacks then travel to Ann Arbor, Mich., for the ITA Kickoff Weekend. Arkansas will play Purdue on Jan. 26 and either Michigan or Utah on Jan. 27.
The Hogs finished the fall season in November, competing in several tournaments. Returners Morgan Cross and Indianna Spink along with transfer Katie Ferguson tied for the team lead with three singles wins. Carolina Gomez Alonso led the Razorbacks with two ranked wins and returns after being named the SEC Freshman of the Year and receiving All-SEC Second Team honors last season.
In doubles, the duo of Cross and Spink advanced to the quarterfinals at the ITA Central Region Championships while Cross led the team with five total wins. Cross/Spink along with the returning tandem of Grace O’Donnell and Lenka Stara both picked up wins over ITA ranked opponents in the fall.
Arkansas returns eight players from last season’s NCAA Tournament team while adding transfers Ferguson and Anet Koskel to the roster.
The Razorbacks are led by head coach Tucker Clary, who enters his 1st full season as the head coach of the Hogs.
Live stats and live video will not be available for the tournament. Results will be posted to all social media pages throughout the day and can be found on the schedule page.
