Razorbacks share leading number of qualifiers into NCAA Indoor Championships

No. 2 Arkansas will have 11 entries into the 2022 NCAA Indoor Championships, which will be held March 11-12 in Birmingham, Alabama, at the Birmingham CrossPlex.

The Razorbacks leading tally of 11 entries was matched by Texas Tech and they were followed by Iowa and Texas with 10 each. Arkansas has entries in a leading nine events, followed by Texas Tech with eight while Iowa, Tennessee, Texas, and Alabama are in seven events apiece.

The top five schools in the updated national rating index include No. 1 Georgia, No. 2 Arkansas, No. 3 North Carolina A&T, No. 4 Texas, and No. 5 Texas Tech.

Ayden Owens, the collegiate leader in the heptathlon with a score of 6,272 points that ranks second on the all-time collegiate list, headlines the Razorback entries. Amon Kemboi, the 2022 SEC Indoor champion at 3,000m, qualified in both distance races.

Arkansas has a pair of entries in the long jump with John Baker and Ryan Brown. Other individual entries for the Razorbacks include James Benson II in the 400m, Kieran Taylor in the 800m, and Phillip Lemonious in the 60m hurdles.

For the fourth consecutive year both Arkansas relays qualified for the NCAA Indoor meet and Texas is the only other school to achieve that feat this season. This marks the 12th consecutive year for the Razorbacks to qualify in the 4×400, currently the second-best active streak.
